Stefan Tönz, Violin

Born in 1972 and raised in Vienna and Zurich, Stefan Tönz studied at the Conservatories of Basel (Françoise and Sandor Zöldy),  Amsterdam (Herman Krebbers), Saarbrücken (Valery Klimov) and Zurich (Robert Zimansky).
Masterclasses with Nathan Milstein, Ivry Gitlis, Franco Gulli and Yfrah Neaman provided additional important impulses.
He has won prizes at international competitions in Geneva (CIEM), Vienna and Florence.
These accomplishments led to invitations for concerts and recordings in Switzerland and abroad.
Among the ensembles he has performed with are the Academy of St.Martin-in-the-Fields, the Tonhalle Orchestra Zurich, the Berlin Radio Orchestra, the World Youth Orchestra, the RAI-Orchestra Torino, the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, the Munich Chamber Orchestra, the Festival Strings Lucerne, the Solisti di Praga and the Opera Orchestra of Nurnberg under conductors such as Sir Neville Marriner, Dimitrij Kitajenko, Eliahu Inbal and Kurt Masur.
In 1997/98, Stefan Tönz made his debut at the Schleswig Holstein Musikfestival and the International Music Festival in Lucerne.
His first CD featuring Saint-Saëns‘ 3. Violin-Concerto with the Academy of  St.Martin-in-the-Fields conducted by Sir Neville Marriner, was internationally highly acclaimed.
His new CD is featuring works by Kurt Weill, Rudi Stephan and Egon Wellesz, with the Lucerne Symphony Orchestra conducted by Jonathan Nott.
